PROJECT KURMA
We are proud to support a sea turtle hatchery near the Padre Ramos estuary in northwest
Nicaragua. Our aim on these beaches is to protect and save the three species of sea turtle that return to
nest and lay their eggs here. We work in partnership with local families & the surrounding communities in order to offer incentives for nests found to egg collectors, who may otherwise be tempted to poach and sell the eggs on the black
market. This program serves as a mechanism to avoid sale of these endangered species in domestic and
international trade. Our approach has proven successful, as locals have become ecological stewards of
their home, protecting rather than exploiting their natural treasures, whilst continuing to make a living for
their families.
